CAPUF Embedded has launched a new GPS Breakout Board using the Quectel L89H GPS Board. The board is complete in itself; you can connect it to your PC via a USB-C Port and quickly evaluate the GPS module without needing anything else.
A DIP Switch is provided to disconnect the GPS Module from the USB. You can access it via the header (TTL Level) if you want to connect it to your microcontroller board.
LED Indications are provided for USB 5V and 3.3V(LDO output), and UART RX TX LEDs are also provided so you can see when data transfer happens on UART. Other LEDs are provided for various features like Position Fix happened or not, whether external is connected, whether Jamming signals are present, PPS pulse per second, and Geofencing.
A 2.54 mm Pitch 12-pin header is provided to access all power pins and other proper signals over the header for connecting it to other boards.
How do you connect this module with your MCU board?
You can move the RX, TX DIP switch position down so it is disconnected from the USB to the UART converter. Now, you can connect your MCU board with 3.3V/GND/RX/TX pins available on the 12-pin header.
Can I connect an External Antenna?
An external Antenna option is available to connect for better signal strength. The external antenna doesn’t come with the board; you have to buy it separately.
Where to use the Quectel L89H GPS Board?
You can use the GPS board to learn and evaluate the Quectel L89H GPS module or even in prototyping. With this board, you can quickly learn how to use the GPS module in your projects or products.
GPS is helpful in many applications, and all tracking devices will need GPS for location tracking or monitoring. Global Positioning System (GPS) technology has a wide range of applications across various industries and for personal use. Here are some key use cases:
Personal Navigation: GPS is commonly used in smartphones and car navigation systems to provide real-time directions.
Aviation and Marine: Used by pilots and mariners for route planning, avoiding hazards, and determining position and speed.
Surveying and Mapping: Professional surveyors use GPS to map out land, boundaries, and infrastructure.
Fleet Management and Tracking:
Logistics and Delivery: Companies use GPS to track fleet locations, optimize routes, reduce fuel consumption, and monitor driver behavior.
Public Transportation: Enables real-time location tracking of buses, trains, and taxis for accurate arrival predictions and improved service.
Emergency and Rescue Operations:
Location Tracking: GPS allows emergency services to locate people in distress, especially in remote or hard-to-reach areas.
Disaster Response: GPS helps in mapping disaster areas, coordinating aid, and conducting search and rescue operations.
Agriculture:
Precision Farming: GPS enables farmers to optimize planting, fertilizing, and harvesting through accurate field mapping and automated machinery guidance.
