CAPUF Embedded has developed a Quectel EC200U based 4G (2G fallback) Cellular GSM Modem. You can easily connect this Modem board to your product using a UART or USB interface.
There are two variants, one without and the other with inbuilt GPS support. You can choose based on your project requirements.
The cellular modem can be powered by 5V or any DC power supply up to 28V DC. It has overvoltage and overcurrent protection on board.
The USB interface is provided on a 4-pin header and marked with 5(5V), P(D+), M(Dā), and G(GND). It is protected by an ESD diode.
In your application, you might need to Power off or Reset the Modem; pins are available on a 4-pin header for easy access.
Please read modem hardware manual and other documents carefully to understand how modem works.
Technical Specification Features
- Powered by Quectel EC200U 4G Module
- USB-C Port is provided for the USB interface. USB is also available on a 4-pin header. ESD protection is provided for USB signals.
- Pins are available on the header to Power OFF, Reset Modem
- 8-pin header has 3.3V compatible UART(RXD, TXD) and Power lines (5V, 5-28V Pins, GND)
- LED indications for USB power, 3.8V Power, as well as for Modem Status (modem is ready or not, connected to the operator or not, connected to Net or not)
- Over-voltage and current protection is provided for power supply
- A Nano SIM card connector is provided, ESD protection is provided for the signals.
- The one layer of the PCB is solid ground plane for excellent RF performance
- UFL connectors for 4G/LTE, GPS and Bluetooth Antenna connections are provided.
- 4G/LTE Flex Antenna comes with the modem. Users need to buy a GPS Antenna and Bluetooth Antenna separately.
- Modem board is 73mm x 50mm in size (download Step file from download section)
LED Indications
- USB PWR: LED Indicates when USB is connected and powering the Modem
- 3.8V LED indicates power supply status to the Modem
- MDM RDY: The modem-ready LED indicates that the modem is ready to accept AT commands.
- NET REG: This LED indicates that the Modem is registered to the Network and has the operator.
- NET MODE: This LED blinks slowly when connected to the network and fast when the internet is connected.
Modem UART, Power Supply & USB Pinout
- If you want to connect the Modem using the USB interface for testing, you can use a USB-C cable(rated for 3A or more), but if you are using it in a product, it is advisable to use a header connector for the connection, as that is more rugged and reliable.
- Be careful about the USB 5V; it should be ideally 5.0V (+-250mV). Also, do not interchange D+ and D- signals on your board; it may damage the modem.
- The modem’s RX (RX of the modem)and TX (TX of the modem) signals are 3.3V compatible. The modem has an onboard level translator that converts 1.8V UART signals to 3.3V.
- If you want to Power the modem with 5V, please use 5V pins and connect both 5V pins as that will help share current on two pins.
- If you want to power with 9/12/18/24V dc, please use 5-28V pin for the 8-pin header connector. Resettable fuse is provided on both 5V and 5-28V DC input lines.
- Do not use NC/EN pin.
Modem Boot, Reset, Power ON/OFF Pinouts
- If you want to enter boot mode, both boot pins need to be shorted before powering ON the modem. This is required only when you need to update the firmware. Please read modem hardware manual carefully to understand how modem works.
- To reset the Modem, >100mSecond high pulse is required as shown in the image below. Please read modem hardware manual carefully to understand how modem works.
- Modem Powers ON automatically as this pin is pulled up (3.3V) with a resistor. If you want to turn it OFF, you can use Power Key pin, make pin low for >3 Sec and modem will execute the power down procedure. Please read modem hardware manual carefully to understand how modem works. After Modem is OFF, you need to make this pin high(3.3V) for >2 Sec to make it ON again.
